To begin with, I'll say I really like this mascara, so this will be a pretty cut and dry review.  After a week of use I feel I can adequately convey my experience with this product, so let's get going:

Pros:

• Price- its about $4 which you absolutely can not beat and I'll tell you why in another pro
• Size- 0.3 fl. oz./10 mL
• Brush- this is the "pro" I was referencing in the first post.  The brush is very reminiscent of the Benefit Bad Girl Mascara brush, big and full and really does add tons of volume.
• Application- it applies very well, smoothly covering each lash.  It is also a good layering mascara, I'd say three coats max!  I didn't experience and clumping and was able to work through my lashes easily in applying two or more coats.
• Formula- as mentioned, this really is a voluminizing mascara that covers each lash amazingly.  The formula is surprisingly nice and thick, but not too thick.  The formula itself has a good balance of shine to it, not too much nor is it dry.
• Packaging- Large tube, black and silver graphics, cute!

 

Cons:

• Formula- This mascara flakes, my eyes actually get quite irritated after a days work b/c they flakes start falling in my eyes.
• Packaging- It comes just how you see it, not sealed or on any other type of packaging.  This was alarming to me, because with any product you put on the face, especially the eyes, I would prefer to purchase it inside of sealed packaging.  If it even had had a safety seal on it and no packaging I would have been okay with that.  Anyone can just open one in the store and put it on or open it to see what it looks like, exposing it to bacteria.  I grabbed the second or third one back hoping that no one had opened it.
• Size- This is not a purse-friendly size.  Its a rather large tube and if you carry a small purse, like say a clutch, it would take up some room.  Think of the size of a basic highlighter or jumbo Sharpie marker.

 

Overall, I am unlikely to re-purchase this product, because of the packaging even though I love the brush.  I just don't deem it as safe as purchasing a product that is sealed.  You might ask, Tenns, why did you even purchase the mascara if you were that alarmed?  Well to be honest, I opened the first one in the line on the display, thinking it was a tester, to see what the brush was like and I really wanted the mascara.  I then realized that none of the mascaras had seals on them and ended up grabbing the second or third mascara in the line.  I did this, because I assumed I wasn't the first person to open up the first one and was absolutely not going to purchase it.  Anyways, if none of this freaks you out and you don't mind a bit of flakage, this actually is a decent mascara with a great brush that is light on the wallet.

Product Interest:

So, I've been pretty interested in this product since the commercial caught my eye a few weeks ago.  I have to say, I'd seen this product in drugstores, mainly Wal-mart, b/c they had a big display of it about a week ago in the store near my house.  However, I didn't really pay attention to it, I take it I though it was just another product from the "Lash Extension" L'Oreal line.  I already have Double Extends, which I really like, but could do without the two-step process.  Its a great mascara, but due to the fact that I am always on the go and that I have to be up, dressed, and out of the house in mornings in no time, doesn't leave much time for a two-step mascara application process.  Anyhow, I saw the commercial with supermodel Linda Evangelista and actually thought to myself, "I wonder if that does work?".  I've seen commercials and reviews for the Lilash and Latisse eyelash growth/thickening products, but didn't feel that I really had a need for them.  They are geared more towards those who actually have trouble growing and maintaining eyelashes for what ever reason.  For me, I actually like my eyelashes, but who doesn't want thicker, fuller, more glamorous ones? For some reason a commercial/drugstore version of a product like this appeals to me, and seems more trustworthy.  Latisse requires an actual prescription from an Md, I'm not big on Dr's, nor do I think the mere cosmetic want to have eyelashes is enough to get a prescription for such a product.  The other eyelash growth products I've heard of are extremely pricey, which is yet another thing I'm not willing to do.  If I had severe issues in which my eyelashes did not grow or started falling out, I would definitely consider these products, mainly b/c your eyelashes are there for more than just making your eyes look pretty.  They are actually attached to your eyes, b/c they keep debris out of your eyes and help them stay clean, so basically they are there to protect your eyes and in that case they serve an extremely important purpose. L'Oreal Lash Boosting Serum claims to result in the multiplication of lashes with daily use.  It is supposed to be applied under mascara and on bare lashes at night.  According to L'orealParis.com, 71% of users claimed to have had more lashes, 75% said their lashes appeared thicker, 78% said they loss less lashes during makeup removal, and 81% said their lashes seemed in better condition.  Those are some pretty staggering numbers, all well over 50%.  Now I'm not sure how large of a focus group they used for their study, but it seems that overall, the participants have favorable results of the product. It is available at drugstores and large retailers, with a price range of $12-$15 (of course you can probably find it cheaper, plus I've seen a few coupons floating around for it.)  I actually do plan on picking this product up very soon, helps that I have a $2 off coupon for it as will.  If you go to L'OrealParisUSA.com there is a link you can click on you get the $2 off, which let's my know that they are really pushing this product, so they must really stand behind it.  The thing I'm interested to know the potential negatives of the product.  I know with other lash serums they said eyelid redness and permanent brown irish pigmentation can occur.  Well, I definitely don't need for my eyelids to be red and look all sickley and my eyes are already brown, yet i don't think I'm comfortable with the eye that a product could make them darker, or any other color than what I was born with for that matter.  So far, from what my research says, it does not contain any ingredients that result in negative side affects, which is that much for comforting to me.This will definitely be an experiment for me...so stay tuned!

Mascaras: Separate….not so much, but together a dynamic duo

These two mascaras apart don’t do much for my lashes.  Colossal dries out pretty quickly and makes my lashes look really thin and separates them by each strand.  Ironically, its supposed to make them look voluminous.  Telescopic Carbon Black is a great super dark mascara and can make my lashes look great, but once applied it can get clumpy and dry fast, which makes it hard to apply additional layers.  I typically keep these mascaras in my purse or on-the-go makeup bag as backups to the ones that sit on my vanity.  I really only use them if I don’t have time to do my makeup at home and have to do it on the run or at work.  I realized that this duo was dynamic when one day at work I was applying Colossal, and it just wasn’t doing it for me… like seriously.  It was flaking and just made my lashes look brittle and dry.  I thought to myself, what would happen if i put some Telescopic Carbon Black over it and BAM!  There is was, a great voluminous, lengthened, and super dark look to my lashes.  Some things just need a partner in crime, and that is exactly what Colossal and Carbon Black are.

Also, the difference in the brushes that each mascara makes a difference.  Colossal has large, but classic bristle round brush, whereas Carbon Black has one of them comb-like applicator w/ the little teeth that are kinda flimsy and bindy.  By using both types of brushes, you get the benefits of both.  The large brush helps to separate and coat lashes and and the comb-like brush helps to catch and define every lash.  The formulas are different too, in that Colossal has a relatively thin and light feel to it formula and Carbon Black has a thick rich formula.

Overall, these two mascaras will remain as my backups, but I’m glad I stumbled upon this little discovery.  Any other time I would have never put the two together, but you really do get a good solid full lash finished look w/ these two.  Both are under $9 at your local drugstore, and look out for those BOGO deals.  I’m sure of it you can grab them for a steal if you buy them that way.  I’m interested to see what other formulas and types of mascaras combined together look as good as these two.  I guess we shall see…to be cont., maybe?

Product Review: CoverGirl Lash Blast Luxe

So I'd been wanting to try the CG Lash Blast Luxe since like forever, well more like since t came out. I was in Wal-Mart a few weekends back and was walking past a display and saw the CG was offering the Lash Blast Luxe Platinum (black) with an eyeshadow trio (which I wasn't too interested in for the sheer fact that I don't care for CG eyeshadows) and a felt tip eyeliner(will be doing a review on in the future). The whole deal cost about $13, and I figured, hey for three products that's not bad, when mascaras, even drugstore one can get pricey. Now, I'll tell you I wasn't as exited about this mascara as I was about the Double Extend Beauty Tubes, but I wanted to give it a shoot. So here goes the review in my 3 P's:


Price: Reasonable, like I said I got mines in a set, but it usually runs from $6-$8 depending on where you purchase it. ~ 4/5

Packaging: Who doesn't love a chunky tube of mascara? I wouldn't recommend this particular mascara as an on-the-go-in-your-purse mascara, because of the large tube. I personally have it sitting with all my other liners and mascaras on my vanity. ~ 3.5/5

Performance: Well, this mascara does exactly what its supposed to do...make your lashes look full and voluminized, while defining them. However, I didn't find that it lengthened very well and you really have to build it up to get those really full voluminous lashes. Also, the fact that the Luxe, is supposed to and some type of glossiness or sparkle to your lashes I didn't find either. Its not a very wet mascara, nor is it a dry one. The short teeth on the wand do help to define each lash, and I was able to get the wand above my upper lashes to add more curl and definition, which is usually hard to do with such a large wand. I would say that the wand is the wonder feature of this product. Its large, with short teeth and can really catch those tiny inner and outer corner lashes. The formulation is a really rich one, and it is a super black mascara with some glossiness, but once again you really have to build up to that. I've experience the same result with other mascara's with less time and coats. ~ 4/5

Overall: I think CG Lash Blast Luxe Platinum is a quality product. If you are one that likes those large tube mascara with big wands, this is the mascara for you. It gets the job done, in the sense that it is a buildable mascara that lasts a all day and washes off without trouble. It doesn't get goopy or clunky, and does a great job at lash definition. I would recommend this mascara, and definitely if you happen to get it on a BOGO or in a kit. The lastability was the deciding factor for me in giving this product my recommendation, so if you are looking for a defining, voluminizing mascara that last all day CG Lash Blast Luxe is the one for you. ~ 4/5

L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara Review

L'oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara is by far one of the best mascaras I've ever tried. I thought nothing could compare to my MAC Zoomlash until I tried Double Extend. Before trying Double Extend, I'd never used a mascara primer before...never saw or had a reason to do so. I realized that when I used the primer/mascara combo together, that the results were absolutely amazing. The formulation of Double Extend is very close to that of MAC Zoomlash, wet, but runny, and thick but not clumpy. I've always had a pain of a time getting mascara off at the end of the night, especially Zoomlash, because of the formulation and super rich black color. You can literally put Zoomlash on at 7am in the morning and it still look very much the same at 12 midnight, which meant it was difficult to get off every time I wore it. Beauty tubes...not an issue whatsoever, for one because the sheer science of it make is so easy to wash off. All you have to do is dampen your fingertips, or actual lashes with warm water and the beauty come right off of your lashes...no messy mascara stained eyes. I would always get gunks of washed off mascara in my eyes with Zoomlash and other mascaras, but not with Double Extend. The beauty tubes are mess-free, and you can easily take off the rest of your eye makeup with not trouble. The one drawback I do have about this product is that you have to apply it quickly, because it dries quite fast. Like, for example, once you apply the primer, you have to immediately apply the mascara and how ever many coats you want to apply to that particular eye, then move on to the next eye. With this mascara you can't go back and forth from one eye to the next, because it will dry on you, and we all know how hard it is to apply another coat of mascara to the lashes when a coat is already dried on them. The cost of this product ranges anywhere from $8-$11 depending upon where you purchase it. I always try to be on the lookout for the BOGO sales that Walgreen's, Ulta, and other retailers have. I got my Double Extend at Wal-Mart in a double pack about 2 months ago, and it was around $9. That's the cheapest I've seen it, because i paid roughly $4.50 or so for each tube of it, and i have a backup for when I run out. It is definitely worth the price tag however with the results it gives. I will say that after two months of use, it does seem to be dwindling down. I can definitely tell that the max life for it is about 4 to maybe 5 months, which in most cases you would want to throw it out then anyways to keep from any bacteria and such growing in it. I probably have one more good month out of my tubes, for the fact that I apply about two coats of it daily, sometimes reapplying later in the day another two coats, if I redo my makeup for some reason or do a tutorial. overall, I would give L'Oreal Double extend Beauty Tubes a 5/5, with two thumbs up! If you haven't tried this mascara yet, you definitely should. I'd be shocked it anyone didn't like it as well as I do.
